EYFS Intent, Implementation and Impact Statement
Intent
At our school, our Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is designed to provide every child with a strong, confident start to their educational journey. Rooted in our school motto, ‘Enabling All to Believe, Grow & Achieve’, we aim to nurture curious, independent and resilient learners who feel safe, respected and ready to explore the world around them.
Our curriculum has been carefully designed and developed by our EYFS Lead and is underpinned by key statutory and non-statutory guidance, including the EYFS Framework, Development Matters and Birth to Five Matters. We recognise that every child is unique and we are committed to providing an inclusive, ambitious curriculum that meets the needs of all learners.
We place a strong emphasis on:
- Developing children’s independence, confidence and self-regulation
- Fostering curiosity, creativity and a love of learning through a topic-based approach
- Building strong relationships and connections with families to support learning and development
- Embedding our core values: Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe
We believe that children learn best in a nurturing environment where they feel secure, challenged and inspired.
Implementation
Our curriculum is delivered through a carefully structured blend of adult-led and child-initiated learning, ensuring breadth, balance and progression across all areas of learning.
We use high-quality, research-informed schemes of work to support teaching and learning, including:
- White Rose Maths
- Drawing Club for Writing
- Kapow
- SCARF
- Little Wandle Phonics
These are adapted to meet the needs and interests of our children and are woven into our topic-based approach, which provides meaningful contexts for learning and encourages sustained engagement.
Key features of our implementation include:
- A language-rich environment where talk is prioritised and vocabulary is explicitly taught
- High-quality interactions between adults and children to extend thinking and deepen understanding
- Opportunities for independence, allowing children to make choices, take risks and lead their own learning
- Continuous provision that is carefully planned, purposeful and responsive to children’s interests
- Strong routines and clear expectations, reinforcing our school rules: Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe
- Close partnerships with parents and carers, including regular communication and opportunities for involvement in children’s learning
Assessment is ongoing and formative, enabling practitioners to respond to children’s next steps and ensure all children make progress.
Impact
The impact of our EYFS curriculum is reflected in the confident, happy and motivated learners we nurture.
Children leave EYFS:
- With a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and understanding across all areas of learning
- As independent learners who are willing to take risks and demonstrate resilience
- With well-developed communication and language skills
- Demonstrating positive attitudes to learning and strong personal, social and emotional development
- Ready for the next stage of their education, with the skills needed to succeed in Key Stage 1
We measure impact through:
- Ongoing formative assessment and observations
- Progress against Development Matters and EYFSP outcomes
- Pupil voice and engagement
- Strong relationships with families and their feedback
Ultimately, our children develop the confidence to believe in themselves, the skills to grow, and the foundations to achieve their full potential.
